The demonstration, organized under the banner of \u2018Terminated and Deprived Grameenphone Workers\u2019 Unity Council\u2019, took place in Bashundhara, Dhaka, with over a hundred participants.<\/p>\n

The protestors allege that between 2010 and 2022, a total of 3,360 employees were unjustly dismissed from their jobs. They are demanding 5% profit-sharing as their rightful due.<\/p>\n

Demands of the ProtestersAccording to Abu Sadat Md. Shoaib, the convener of the protest group, they have been fighting for years for their rights.<\/p>\n

He stated:<\/strong>
\n\u201cWe demand the reinstatement of terminated workers, immediate payment of the 5% profit share with penalties for delays, and legal action against officials involved in anti-worker activities. Our movement will continue until justice is served.\u201d
\nDuring the protest, demonstrators chanted slogans such as:
\n\u201cWe demand our rightful dues, not charity!\u201d
\n\u201cPunishment for those responsible in GP management!\u201d
\n\u201cOne demand, one solution \u2013 5% profit must be given!\u201d
\n\u201cNo justice, no peace \u2013 we want justice!\u201d<\/p>\n

They also displayed placards demanding fair treatment and legal accountability from the company.
\nGrameenphone\u2019s ResponseGrameenphone\u2019s Head of External Communications, Ankit Sureka,<\/strong> acknowledged the protest, stating: \u201cA group of former employees has been gathering in front of GP House over the past few days, making various demands related to employment and benefits. As far as we know, most of them had parted ways with Grameenphone a long time ago and had received their legal entitlements.\u201d<\/p>\n

Head of External Communications, Ankit Sureka further added that<\/strong> the claims made by the protestors are subjects of ongoing legal proceedings, and Grameenphone remains fully committed to the judicial process.<\/p>\n

\u201cGrameenphone respects the right to peaceful assembly. However, these individuals are illegally obstructing entry and exit points, causing inconvenience to our employees and customers. We prioritize safety and adhere to national laws,\u201d he stated.
\nSecurity MeasuresWith the protest gaining momentum, additional police forces were deployed inside and outside GP House to ensure security. As of 8:30 PM, the protesters were still present in front of the headquarters.<\/p>\n
