Grammys 2025: Full List of Winners
Beyoncé Triumphs While Taylor Swift Gets Snubbed
Us Central desk: The 2025 Grammy Awards were filled with surprises, with Beyoncé finally securing her first Album of the Year win—just a year after her husband, Jay-Z, publicly criticized the Recording Academy for repeatedly overlooking her. Meanwhile, Taylor Swift faced a stunning shutout, failing to win any of the six categories she was nominated in, despite The Tortured Poets Department being the best-selling album of 2024.
Kendrick Lamar’s Big NightKendrick Lamar emerged as one of the night’s biggest winners, taking home two of the ‘big four’ awards: Song of the Year and Record of the Year for his Drake diss track Not Like Us. The Best New Artist category, which featured a strong lineup of nominees, was won by Chappell Roan.
However, the most anticipated win of the night belonged to Beyoncé, 43, who secured Album of the Year for Cowboy Carter, beating out strong contenders like André 3000 (New Blue Sun), Billie Eilish (Hit Me Hard and Soft), Charli XCX (Brat), Chappell Roan (The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess), Jacob Collier (Djesse Vol 4), Sabrina Carpenter (Short n’ Sweet), and Taylor Swift (The Tortured Poets Department).
A Historic Moment for BeyoncéIn a heartfelt moment, members of the Los Angeles Fire Department presented Beyoncé with her award. She was joined on stage by her 13-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy, and used her acceptance speech to acknowledge their bravery.
“I’d like to thank and acknowledge all the firefighters for keeping us safe,” she said. “I just feel very full and very honored. It’s been many, many years. I want to thank the Grammys, every songwriter, every collaborator, every producer, all of the hard work. I want to dedicate this to Ms. Martell, and just keep pushing forward, opening doors. God bless. Thank you so much.”
The “Ms. Martell” Beyoncé referred to is Linda Martell, a Black country music pioneer whose influence was featured on Cowboy Carter.
Jay-Z’s Past Criticism of the GrammysThis historic win comes a year after Jay-Z’s pointed remarks at the 2024 Grammy Awards, where he called out the Recording Academy for not awarding Beyoncé Album of the Year despite her status as the most decorated artist in Grammy history. While accepting the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award, he famously stated:
“I don’t want to embarrass this young lady, but she has more Grammys than everyone and never won Album of the Year. So even by your own metrics, that doesn’t work. Think about that.”
Regardless, Beyoncé finally received her long-overdue recognition, marking a major milestone in her career. Earlier in the night, she was also honored with the Best Country Album award for Cowboy Carter, presented by none other than Taylor Swift.
