Dhaka: The 29th Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF) has begun at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Center in Purbachal on January 1, 2025, and will continue until January 31, 2025.
As in previous years, the fair is being jointly organized by the Ministry of Commerce and the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB). To honor the sacrifices of students and citizens in the anti-discrimination movement, two special zones named ‘July Square’ and ‘Thirty-Six Square’ have been created.
Additionally, to encourage the country’s youth in export trade, a Youth Pavilion has been set up.
Professor Yunus: “Lack of Money is No Barrier to Entrepreneurship”
Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the chief advisor of the fair, emphasized that money is not a barrier to becoming an entrepreneur. Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, the Nobel Laureate in Peace and renowned economist stated:
“Not having money is not an issue—if you have intelligence, you can earn money. Through this trade fair, we want to empower young men and women, as well as people of all ages, to become entrepreneurs. If this happens, the fair will have a significant impact on everyone’s lives.”
He highlighted that many young Bangladeshis are already running successful businesses in agriculture, handicrafts, cottage industries, ICT, and other sectors. Some are even selling software internationally from their homes.
Women Entrepreneurs on the Rise
Professor Yunus also noted the growing number of women entrepreneurs, stating:
“Many women are managing successful businesses from home—selling sarees, preparing and delivering homemade meals, and running various innovative enterprises. Even housewives and mothers of multiple children are finding ways to contribute to the economy. These inspiring entrepreneurs need to be showcased and supported.”
