Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Recalled Mini Pastries: 61 Cases Reported Across Canada
World Desk: The Public Health Agency of Canada has linked 61 cases of salmonella infection, including 17 hospitalizations, to recalled Sweet Cream brand mini pastries.
The affected pastries were distributed to bakeries, hotels, restaurants, cafeterias, hospitals, retirement residences, and catered events. A statement from the agency confirmed that 33 of the illnesses occurred in Quebec, 21 in Ontario, four in British Columbia, two in Alberta, and one in New Brunswick.
Patients who became ill range in age from three to 88 years old, with 61% of cases involving women. The illnesses were reported between late September 2024 and mid-December 2024.
“Many individuals who became sick reported eating mini pastries at catered events or establishments where the recalled product was served,” the agency noted.
Recall Details
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) issued a recall on Saturday for Sweet Cream mini patisserie, covering four-kilogram boxes and one-kilogram trays with best-before dates ranging from June 17, 2025, to November 15, 2025.
Health Risks
Salmonella infections can cause symptoms like fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea. While most healthy individuals recover within a few days, the infection can pose serious risks to young children, pregnant people, seniors, and those with weakened immune systems.
Consumers are urged to avoid consuming the recalled product and to dispose of or return it to the place of purchase. Those who experience symptoms after eating the pastries should contact a healthcare provider immediately.
For further updates, visit the CFIA website or contact local health authorities.

Salmonella Risk Prompts Egg Recall Across Canadian Provinces
A recall has been issued for certain shell eggs sold in Ontario, British Columbia, Manitoba, and possibly other provinces due to salmonella contamination.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) announced the recall after testing detected salmonella contamination. While no illnesses have been reported, the agency is conducting a safety investigation and ensuring the removal of the recalled products from stores.
What to Do
Consumers are advised not to consume, serve, use, or sell the recalled eggs. Products should be disposed of or returned to the place of purchase. Those experiencing symptoms after consuming the eggs should contact a healthcare provider immediately.
