Abu Dhabi, UAE – US-based Archer Aviation has announced that its plans to launch flying taxis in the UAE remain on track for late 2025, marking a major milestone in urban air mobility.
Key Developments
Hybrid Heliport Approved: The General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) granted design approval for the UAE’s first hybrid heliport at Abu Dhabi’s Zayed Port, a strategic location serving over 650,000 cruise visitors annually.
Regulatory Framework: Archer is working closely with the GCAA to establish a regulatory framework for electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft.
Pilot Training Underway: The company has delivered its Midnight eVTOL simulator to Etihad Aviation Training in Abu Dhabi, with pilot training already in progress.
Strategic Partnerships & Commercial Plans
– Abu Dhabi Aviation and Ethiopian Airlines have been named as the first customers under Archer’s “Launch Edition” program.
– The Midnight aircraft, designed for short urban commutes, is expected to reduce travel time between Dubai and Abu Dhabi to just 10-20 minutes, with fares estimated at AED 800–1,500 per ride.
Competition in the UAE Air Mobility Sector
While Archer leads the charge in Abu Dhabi, Joby Aviation is in talks with Dubai’s RTA to deploy its own air taxi network, having already built the emirate’s first vertiport in late 2023.
CEO’s Vision
“Archer is reshaping the future of aviation,” said Adam Goldstein, Founder & CEO. “With strong progress in regulatory approvals and pilot training, we’re gearing up for commercialization in the UAE this year.”*
What’s Next?
– Midnight eVTOL delivery to the UAE expected this summer.
– Commercial operations likely by late 2025.
The UAE continues to invest in next-gen transport solutions, including flying taxis, hyperloops, and expanded metro networks, to combat rising traffic congestion.
