Desk report : Rachel Sennott and Bowen Yang, both celebrated actor-writer-comedians, will reveal the nominees for the 97th annual Academy Awards this Thursday.

The live presentation will begin at 5:30 a.m. PT from the Samuel Goldwyn Theater, home to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Sennott and Yang will announce nominees across all 24 Oscar categories, spotlighting the films, actors, and creators vying for cinema’s most prestigious honors.

The event will be live-streamed globally on Oscar.com, Oscars.org, and the Academy’s official platforms, including TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, and Facebook. Additionally, viewers can catch the announcement on ABC’s Good Morning America, ABC News Live, Disney+, and Hulu.

The 97th Academy Awards ceremony is poised to celebrate excellence in filmmaking, with nominees eagerly awaiting their chance to compete for Oscar glory.

Rachel Sennott’s impressive credits include Jason Reitman’s film Saturday Night, which delves into the behind-the-scenes events during the 90 minutes leading up to the first broadcast of Saturday Night Live in 1975. She is also known for her standout performances in Shiva Baby, Bodies Bodies Bodies, and I Used to Be Funny.

Bowen Yang, currently a star on NBC’s Saturday Night Live, boasts additional credits in the upcoming Wicked, The Garfield Movie, and Good Burger 2.

The announcement of the 97th Academy Awards nominees was initially scheduled for January 17 but was postponed to January 19 due to devastating wildfires that erupted two weeks ago. These fires destroyed numerous structures in Los Angeles and significantly impacted many Oscar voters. In response, the Academy extended the voting period and delayed the announcement.

As the fires continued to affect the region, the Academy made further adjustments, moving the voting window deadline to January 17 and rescheduling the nominations announcement to January 23. Additionally, the Academy canceled its traditional Oscar Nominees Luncheon, reallocating the $250,000 budget for the event to aid Angelenos impacted by the wildfires.

The 97th Oscars telecast will proceed as planned on March 2 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. Hosted by Conan O’Brien, the ceremony will be broadcast live on ABC and viewed in over 200 territories worldwide.
